Introductory Letter:

Greetings:

SelectBooks is pleased to announce the publication of "We Live Too Short and Die Too Long: How to Achieve and Enjoy Your Natural 100-Year-Plus Life Span" by Walter M. Bortz, M.D. This is a newly revised and expanded edition of the groundbreaking classic first published in 1992 (Bantam Books). We have undertaken this new publication because the issues discussed in the prior offering have become exponentially more important over the past 15 years. These include such topics as wellbeing, care giving, physical fitness, diet, fiscal considerations such as social security, and a workforce that is increasingly working well past the retirement age for a number of reasons.

That the perceptions and realities of old age have shifted so drastically since 1992 only underscores the fact that Dr. Bortz is far ahead of the curve in his comprehensive understanding of this subject. This should come as no surprise since this highly esteemed Stanford researcher and former president of the American Geriatric Society is widely considered to be the father of "active geriatrics" and something of a Kinsey figure in the study of sexual activity and the aging male.

As "sixty becomes the new forty" and other such catchphrases abound, there has been a great deal of recent discussion on the newly arising issues concerning our graying population as we enter the 21st century. And it is important that we include in the forum the insights of such a longstanding and significant leader on the subject as Dr. Bortz.

This is why we have brought "We Live Too Short and Die Too Long" up to date with new data and research, and expanded the volume to incorporate present day concerns that may have only been blips on the horizon back in the early nineties. Please take a moment to download the materials from our electronic press kit and please do not hesitate to contact me directly should you require any additional information.

Many thanks for taking the time out to read this letter.

Sincerely yours,

Kenichi Sugihara,
Director of Marketing and Publicity
