Dear Colleagues:

SelectBooks is pleased to announce the publication of From Anecdote to Antidote—Medical Musings and Practical Prescriptions from a Humanitarian Healer by Dr. Richard S. Klein. It is a book that addresses not only health, but also the human condition, from a variety of angles that are in turn thought-provoking, enlightening and reassuring.

Author Richard Klein is a man who has lived a life many only dream of. Having grown up in the tenements of the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Klein dropped out of high school to join the military, where he was assigned the duties of a medical corpsman. His experiences in both the United States Navy and Marine Corps led him to pursue medicine as a profession. His drive and gift for working with people in distress led him to study at the medical college of the University of Rome in Italy, one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the Western world. From these beginnings Dr. Klein forged a career that led him to amazing places. He has treated Gregory Hines and Pearl Bailey as one of the go-to physicians for the Broadway theater crowd. He has volunteered his services to the impoverished people of Italy. He also volunteered his services to the State of Israel during two of its bloodiest wars, assisting both Israeli troops and Egyptian POWs alike.

During his run for the House of Representatives in the mid 90’s, he managed to rub elbows with many key figures in American and international politics (Bill and Hillary Clinton, Pope John Paul II and Ariel Sharon to name a few).

But From Anecdote to Antidote is more than a collection of compelling tales from a colorful life. Rather, these accounts serve as a point of departure for him to dispense invaluable medical advice and social examination based upon these experiences. His encounter with Pope John Paul II helped him understand the role faith can play in healing and addressing illness. His military service taught him the value of focus under pressure, particularly when treating the injured. His hardscrabble time as a student, intern, and resident demonstrated the importance of putting a human face on the medical professional. From Anecdote to Antidote addresses all of these issues and more, and goes above and beyond the call to deliver eminently useful medical advice that aids the reader in getting healthy and staying healthy.

From Anecdote to Antidote will find an audience with anyone looking to be proactive in tending to their own health, as well as with those who simply enjoy an entertaining read. It is the rare book in which one can simultaneously get lost in the narrative while learning valuable lessons about health and humanity—how we should treat others as well as how we should take care of ourselves. SelectBooks is proud to bring From Anecdote to Antidote and Richard Klein to the reading public. Please take a moment to download the materials from our electronic press kit and do not hesitate to contact me directly should you require any additional information.

Sincerely yours,
